The DJI Osmo Action 7 is DJI’s next action camera, but as of October 20, 2026 it has not been announced. What exists so far is a set of prototype photos that circulated in August, a handful of spec leaks, and one fairly reliable data point: DJI’s own release rhythm, which points to an arrival somewhere between late October 2026 and January 2027.
Below we separate what is confirmed from what is rumor, work out the likely launch window from the real dates of every past generation, and explain whether it makes sense to wait or buy the Osmo Action 6 now.

Quick answer: the Osmo Action 7 has no official release date. Based on DJI’s cycle (322 to 425 days between models), an announcement is most likely between now and mid-January 2027, with a starting price close to the Action 6’s launch price. If you need a camera for a trip that is coming up soon, the Osmo Action 6 is still a great buy. If you can wait a few weeks, wait.
Confirmed vs. rumored: what we know about the DJI Osmo Action 7
DJI has not published so much as a teaser for the Osmo Action 7, and there is no public certification filing that identifies it either. Everything else comes from leaks, so treat it with caution. The table marks how reliable each item is.
| Item | Status | What we know |
|---|---|---|
| Model exists | Likely (leak) | Prototype photos next to a pocket camera, published on August 11, 2026 |
| Announcement date | Estimate | Late October 2026 to January 2027, based on DJI’s release cycle |
| Price | Estimate | Similar to the Action 6 at launch, possibly slightly higher |
| Sensor | Rumor | 1-inch, or a faster stacked 1/1.1-inch sensor |
| Video | Rumor | 8K at 30 or 60 fps and 4K up to 240 fps |
| Processor | Rumor | New chip with a built-in AI unit |
| Waterproofing | Rumor | 25 m without a case (20 m on the Action 6) |
| Storage | Rumor | Up to 128 GB internal plus microSD |
| Mount compatibility | Likely (unconfirmed) | Same magnetic quick-release system |
In short: nothing about the Action 7 is official. Only the Osmo Action 6 specs quoted in this article come from DJI.
DJI Osmo Action 7 release date
The best clue is DJI’s own history. Since the Action 2, each generation has been on sale for between 322 and 425 days before being replaced. The Osmo Action 6 was announced on November 18, 2025, which means that on October 21, 2026 it has been out for 337 days.
| Model | Announced | Days until successor |
|---|---|---|
| Osmo Action | May 15, 2019 | 896 |
| Action 2 | Oct 27, 2021 | 322 |
| Osmo Action 3 | Sep 14, 2022 | 322 |
| Osmo Action 4 | Aug 2, 2023 | 414 |
| Osmo Action 5 Pro | Sep 19, 2024 | 425 |
| Osmo Action 6 | Nov 18, 2025 | 337 and counting |
Days each camera was on sale before the next generation arrived.
Applying that range to the Action 6, the window runs from October 6, 2026 (already passed) to January 17, 2027. The most repeated leaks point to October or November, aiming at holiday sales.
The Action 6 arrived later than its original schedule because of supply problems, and that helps explain why the cycle has drifted toward November. If DJI repeats that pattern, the most likely scenario is a November announcement with immediate availability, as happened with the Action 6.
Will the Osmo Action 7 be sold in the United States?
That is the open question for US buyers. DJI launches its Osmo cameras worldwide on the same day, with sales through its official store and distributors from day one in markets like Europe. The restrictions DJI faces in the United States are a separate matter, and they make US availability of any new DJI model less certain than elsewhere. When the Action 7 is announced, check DJI’s US store and authorized retailers before you plan a purchase around a specific date.
DJI Osmo Action 7 price: what to expect
The starting point is the Osmo Action 6’s official launch pricing, which came in two packs: the Standard Combo, and the Adventure Combo, which adds two extra batteries, the charging case and a 1.5 m extension pole.
| Pack | Osmo Action 6 (launch) | Osmo Action 7 (our estimate) |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Combo | Launch price | Same price or a modest increase |
| Adventure Combo | Launch price (adds 2 batteries, charging case, 1.5 m pole) | Same price or a modest increase |
Our own estimate, based on official Action 6 pricing and leaked figures in dollars. These are not confirmed prices.
The dollar leaks talk about a moderate increase or an unchanged price. A jump to a 1-inch sensor could make it more expensive, which is why we describe a range rather than a fixed number.
One side effect is almost certain: once the Action 7 is announced, the Action 6 will get cheaper. If you like what it already offers, waiting for the launch can also help you buy it for less.
Leaked DJI Osmo Action 7 specs and what could improve
To understand what the Action 7 could add, start with what the Action 6 already does, which is a lot. Its current official spec sheet includes a square 1/1.1-inch sensor, a variable f/2.0 to f/4.0 aperture, 4K at 120 fps, 10-bit color with D-Log M and 8K recording up to 30 fps.
Sensor: the big unknown
There are two rumors. One mentions a 1-inch sensor; the other says DJI keeps the 1/1.1-inch size but moves to a stacked sensor with faster readout. The second option is more coherent: it would reduce rolling shutter and improve dynamic range without changing the body or the accessories.
Video: 8K at 60 fps and 4K at 240 fps
The Action 6 already shoots 8K at 30 fps, so the real step up would be reaching 60 fps and, above all, 4K at 240 fps for slow motion. Today the Action 6 tops out at 4K at 120 fps and reserves 240 fps for 1080p.
AI processor, battery and storage
Leaks mention a new chip with a dedicated AI unit, which would improve subject tracking and stabilization. They also mention a cold-weather battery with a bit more runtime and up to 128 GB of internal storage, compared with roughly 50 GB of usable space today.
On water resistance, the most repeated rumor is going from 20 m to 25 m without a case. It is a small gain, but useful for recreational diving without extra accessories.

Which should you choose: Action 6 or wait for the Action 7?
You have a trip or ski season in the next few weeks: buy the Action 6. It already has a variable aperture, 4K at 120 fps, 4 hours of battery and works down to −20 °C (−4 °F). No Action 7 leak changes that for normal use.
You shoot slow motion or want maximum detail for cropping: wait. 4K at 240 fps and a faster sensor would be the most noticeable upgrades.
You already own an Action 5 Pro or an Action 6: there is no reason to upgrade blindly. Wait for the real specs and the first video samples.
You are shopping for a holiday gift: if the announcement lands in November, the Action 7 will be the headline gift and the Action 6 will drop in price. If you also fly drones, our guide to drone photography and video covers camera settings that carry over to an action camera.
Is it worth waiting for the DJI Osmo Action 7?
For most people, yes, if you can hold out until January. The risk of waiting is low: either the Action 7 arrives with real improvements, or the Action 6 gets cheaper. The only case where waiting does not pay off is when you need the camera right now.
Common mistakes when buying an action camera
- Using a slow microSD card. For 4K at 120 fps or 10-bit recording you need a V30 card at minimum; with a slow one the recording cuts out.
- Diving past the no-case limit. The Action 6’s 20 m rating is without any extra protection. For more depth you need the 60 m waterproof case.
- Paying for a bundle you do not need. The Adventure Combo makes sense for long sessions; for occasional use, the Standard Combo plus one extra battery costs less.
- Forgetting audio. The built-in microphone is fine for action, but for vlogging a wireless microphone is better, and the Action 6 connects one without a receiver.
- Switching systems without checking mounts. If you already own DJI magnetic accessories, staying in the same family saves money.
Other DJI launches worth following
DJI is refreshing a large part of its lineup this fall. On the drone side, the DJI Neo 3 is expected to bring a sensor upgrade similar to the one rumored for the Action 7, and the DJI Avata 360 brings 360-degree recording to FPV flight.

If you like first-person footage without a helmet camera, AI smart glasses are another option, since they already record hands-free video.

DJI Osmo Action 7 FAQ
There is no official date. DJI usually refreshes its action cameras every 11 to 14 months, so the announcement should land between late October 2026 and mid-January 2027, with November the most likely month.
Nobody knows yet. Our estimate is a price similar to the Osmo Action 6’s launch price, with a possible modest increase if the camera gets a 1-inch sensor. Treat any figure you see before DJI announces it as a guess.
Most likely yes, since the Osmo Action 6 already lists 8K at 30 fps. The rumored upgrades are 8K at 60 fps and 4K at 240 fps.
That is the likely outcome. DJI has used the same magnetic mounting system since the Action 4, and leaks suggest it will stay compatible, but it is not confirmed.
If you need a camera now, buy the Action 6; it is a very complete camera. If you can wait until January, wait: you will either get a better model or the Action 6 at a lower price.
Unconfirmed. DJI launches Osmo cameras globally, but the restrictions DJI faces in the United States make availability there less certain. Check DJI’s US store and authorized retailers at launch.
Not officially announced. The most repeated rumor is 25 m without a case, up from 20 m on the Action 6, which reaches 60 m with its waterproof case.
A faster or larger sensor, 4K at 240 fps for slow motion, an AI-enabled processor, a cold-weather battery with more runtime and up to 128 GB of internal storage. All of these are leaks, not confirmed specs.
