The DJI Neo 3 is DJI’s next pocket-sized selfie drone, and as of October 20, 2026, it still hasn’t been announced. Leaks tell us quite a lot, though: a listing in China’s civil drone registry with a September 2026 production date, retail boxes, a battery label, a marketing spec sheet and videos of real units. Here’s what’s confirmed, what’s rumored, the expected release date and price, and how it compares with the Neo and Neo 2.
Quick answer: the DJI Neo 3 has no official release date or price. Leaks point to a 192.7 g drone (still under 250 g), a square 1/1.1-inch sensor, a bigger battery and a new DJI RC Mini controller with a built-in screen. An announcement in China between October and December 2026 looks likely. US availability is uncertain: it doesn’t appear to have FCC authorization yet.
Confirmed or rumored: what we know about the DJI Neo 3
DJI hasn’t officially confirmed anything, so we’ve split the information into levels: leaked documents (registry, box, battery label, spec sheet), what’s visible in videos of real units, and unsupported rumors.

DJI Neo 3 release date
There’s no official date. The only dated document is the Chinese registry listing, which shows a production date of September 21, 2026. That’s a factory date, not an announcement date.
With that and retail boxes already circulating, the likeliest scenario is an announcement in China between October and November 2026, with the global launch one or two weeks later; late November or early December is also possible. The timing fits the series: the first Neo launched in September 2024 and the Neo 2 on November 13, 2025.
Will the DJI Neo 3 come to the US?
It’s unclear. The leaked box carries CE and UKCA markings, required for sale in Europe and the UK, so a European and British launch looks likely. The US is another story: the drone doesn’t appear to have FCC authorization, and without it DJI can’t sell it there. New DJI products have faced US regulatory hurdles, so don’t count on official US availability.
DJI Neo 3 price: what to expect
DJI hasn’t published a price, and no leak includes one. Expect it to cost more than the Neo 2 because of its bigger sensor, larger battery and new screen controller, with the Fly More Combo with RC Mini as the most popular bundle. When it launches, the Neo 2 will probably drop in price.

Design, camera and leaked specs
The Neo 3 changes more than expected. It’s heavier and bigger, and clearly aims to fix image quality, the Neo series’ weak point.
Camera: the big leap
The spec sheet mentions a square 1/1.1-inch sensor, the same size and format as the DJI Osmo Action 6 action camera. The Neo and Neo 2 use a 1/2-inch sensor, so the surface area would be more than double. Being square, the sensor would let you record vertical or horizontal video without rotating the camera, a clear advantage for TikTok, Reels and Shorts. The sheet also mentions 2x lossless zoom. Resolution and frame rates haven’t leaked.
Weight, guards and battery
The Chinese registry lists 192.7 g, about 42 g more than the Neo 2 (151 g) and nearly 58 g more than the original Neo (135 g). It stays under 250 g, which matters for drone rules.
The propeller guards are now built into the arms, and a top grille is described on the box as improving heat dissipation. The leaked battery is a 1,800 mAh, 18.9 Wh, 3-cell pack with seven contacts, versus the Neo 2’s two cells and five contacts, so Neo 2 batteries almost certainly won’t fit.
DJI RC Mini controller
The leaked Fly More Combo includes a new controller, the DJI RC Mini, with its own screen and a rear dial. It closely resembles the RC Mini AG that DJI sells in China for agricultural drones, with a 1.97-inch screen, and lets you fly without your phone. The box has no external transceiver, suggesting the radio is built into the drone; the Neo 2 needed a 9 g module to use a controller or goggles.
What’s in the leaked Fly More Combo
- DJI Neo 3 drone
- Three batteries and a charging hub
- DJI RC Mini controller with expansion cover and non-slip mat
- Spare propellers and screwdriver
- USB-C cable

DJI Neo 3 and US drone rules
At 192.7 g, the Neo 3 would stay under the FAA’s 250 g threshold. If it becomes available in the US, recreational pilots wouldn’t need to register it, but they’d still need to pass the free TRUST test, fly at or below 400 ft, keep it in visual line of sight and check airspace with B4UFLY or another approved app. Flying for business requires a Part 107 certificate and registration regardless of weight.
In the EU it would most likely be class C0 and, in the UK, similar sub-250 g rules apply: no test required, but because it has a camera you must register as an operator.

What to choose
- You need a drone now: the DJI Neo 2, with omnidirectional sensing, forward LiDAR, 4K/60fps and a likely price drop (check US availability).
- Lowest budget: the original DJI Neo is still one of the cheapest DJI drones.
- Best image quality in a pocket drone: wait for the Neo 3; the 1/1.1-inch sensor would be the series’ biggest leap.
- You’ll use a controller: the Neo 3’s RC Mini with a screen avoids relying on your phone and the Neo 2’s transceiver.
Is it worth waiting for the DJI Neo 3?
If video quality is your priority, yes: the leaks point to a real jump in image quality and a more comfortable controller. If price matters most, remember the Neo 2 will likely get cheaper at launch and the Neo 3 will cost more, with batteries that aren’t compatible with the Neo 2. In the US, also factor in that the Neo 3 may never be officially sold.
DJI Neo 3 FAQ
DJI hasn’t announced a date. The Chinese registry listing shows a production date of September 21, 2026, and an announcement between October and December 2026 looks likely, first in China and one or two weeks later globally.
There’s no official or leaked price. Expect it to cost more than the Neo 2 because of its bigger sensor, battery and screen controller.
Yes. China’s civil drone registry lists it at 192.7 g. It’s heavier than the Neo 2 (151 g) but still under the 250 g limit.
It’s uncertain. The leaked box has CE and UKCA markings for Europe and the UK, but the drone doesn’t appear to have FCC authorization, which DJI needs to sell it in the US.
Almost certainly not. The leaked Neo 3 battery has three cells, 1,800 mAh and seven contacts, versus the Neo 2’s two cells and five contacts.
If image quality matters most, wait: the 1/1.1-inch sensor would be a major leap. If you want to fly now or spend less, the Neo 2 has LiDAR, omnidirectional sensing and 4K/60fps, and will probably drop in price.
